چکیده

Carbon nanotubes, unmodified (pristine) and modified through charged atoms, were simulated in water, and their water conduction rates determined. The conducted water inside the nanotubes was found to exhibit a strong ordering of its dipole moments. In pristine nanotubes the water dipoles adopt a single orientation along the tube axis with a low flipping rate between the two possible alignments. Modification can induce in nanotubes a bipolar ordering as previously observed in biological water channels. Network thermodynamics was applied to investigate proton conduction through the nanotubes.

A molecular dynamics simulation of water transport through C and SiC nanotubes: Application for desalination

In this work the conduction of ion-water solution through two discrete bundles of armchair carbon and silicon carbide nanotubes, as useful membranes for water desalination, is studied. In order that studies on different types of nanotubes be comparable, the chiral vectors of C and Si-C nanotubes are selected as (7,7) and (5,5), respectively, so that    a similar volume of fluid is investigated ...

Water conduction through carbon nanotubes

In molecular dynamics simulations we found that water can form hydrogen-bonded water chains in the interior of carbon nanotubes. Water penetration is sensitive to details of thermodynamic conditions and interaction potentials, resulting in sharp, first-order like transitions between filled and empty states. Under wetting conditions, water molecules are transported efficiently through nanotubes....

Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: Mimics of Biological Ion Channels

Here we report on the ion conductance through individual, small diameter single-walled carbon nanotubes. We find that they are mimics of ion channels found in natural systems. We explore the factors governing the ion selectivity and permeation through single-walled carbon nanotubes by considering an electrostatic mechanism built around a simplified version of the Gouy-Chapman theory. We find th...

Carbon Nanotubes as Near Infrared Radiation (NIR) Molecules for Cancer treatment

Introduction: The photo-thermal therapy by nanoparticles has been recently known as an efficient strategy for the cancer treatment. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been extensively studied in biomedical application due to the easy uptake and high permeability in the cells, biocompatibility in biological environments and also their unique electrical, thermal properties. They genera...
